As I have already mentioned, I am Tom Mboya, a 40 year old African, Kenyan and an aspiring writer.

Despite never having brought a morsel of bread to my dinner table, writing has become an obsession with me.

So I guess this is going to be about writing. Oh! And about dreams. Yes, dreams about …?

This morning a new poem began playing out in my heart. I don’t know why, but I have a feeling it is going to be a summary of my entire life up to now. For I am thinking that: In life’s muddy streams, Drown those who dare Kindle embers of dreams, From fortunes vacant stare… I can’t say when I first kindled of the dream to become a writer. What I am certain about is that to me life is becoming increasingly a muddy stream. It is no longer the sparkling, cool and limpid spring of hope that nourished my spirit some years back when hope and expectations were still comely friends.

For the past three days now, I have been asking myself this: `why be a blogger?’ Well, folks, today I found an answer – the aching need to reassure myself that I am not alone.

That perhaps there are millions out there like me: people who are caged within the iron walls of a dream, a dream that replays itself every minute of their wakeful moments; painfully tugging at their heart strings.

So, in my blog, I want to share something precious with you. I want to show you a part of me that is hidden in a dream- the dream to become a widely read poet and novelist.

Perhaps by thrusting this me under your noses, I can begin to accept and live contentedly with the real me. The me that is trudging towards a dreary and barren future; and not me the dreamer.

In other words, I would like to share myself: my thoughts, feelings, aspirations – and frustrations. The ones I have encountered on this long and seemingly endless road to …? Yes, hoping that maybe that will be the full measure of my dreams.

Would you agree with me that concealed in every line a poet or a creative writer uses, there is an untold story? A very long one?

Well, from my poems, and excerpts from my book – Beyond The Horizon (unpublished) I would like to share a story, my story, with you. Let’s title it – War With God!

I am Tom Mboya, a writer and a poet. Am 40 years old, Kenyan; but want to be part of the international community. As a writer, I have had to struggle with conflicting thoughts about my choice of career because so far none of my works has been published.

My intention here, will be to share thoughts, ideas and experiences regarding the world of writers and poets. What I would like to share mainly will be my poems.
